Dancing with the Garbage Bin (So You Think You Can Dumpster Dive)

Because our appliances are in, they are now locking the house, making it a little hard to get into. The sliding glass door hasn't been locking properly, so we were able to get in if we really wanted to, for example when we took Mom and Dad out there last Saturday. But, that's why there haven't been any recent posts or pictures.

We had a walk-through this last Monday with our construction manager Eric to find any and all problems that needed to be fixed before next Monday. This means that this coming Monday we will have our final walk-through and then Wednesday we should do the settlement (signing all the closing papers) and then get our key the next day. WOW!! If all goes according to that plan, we could be moving in over the Pioneer Day holiday, just in time for some of my siblings to come see it from out of (and in) state.

So, to help you understand the nature of title, a short story:

A couple of Sundays ago (we go over to the house after church) we were there looking at our beautiful home, standing in the kitchen, opening drawers and cupboards, generally just admiring the view. I've been collecting little bits of scraps of the home for a possible scrapbook, half a brick, a piece of roofing, etc, and was looking through the house for some vinyl bits. I found a little of the lighter color from the laundry room, and then thought I could look in the dumpster for something else. Lo and behold, a huge piece of dark vinyl (it's about 3x6 feet). So Charles climbed into it in his Sunday clothes and pulled it out as well as a few spare kitchen boards, then started to climb out and his glasses fell right out of his shirt pocket - right to the bottom of the almost full dumpster. So Charles started Dumpster Diving in his Sunday clothes. He actually burned the heel of his hand on the sun-hot top edge trying to keep himself from falling all the way in. Long story short, he got them!! Its a bit of a running joke now when he misplaces his keys, glasses or phone - are they in the bottom of the dumpster?

We had arranged to get into the house last night, because they had put down the carpet the day before, but we couldn't go then (Tuesday) because we couldn't get in touch with anyone to make sure it would be unlocked. So, being told it would be last night (Wednesday), we went out. It was locked. So, still haven't seen the carpet. It was down, though. We could see it through the front window, which is the only one on ground level, and even that one has a pretty steep slope under it. Wow, we'll really have our privacy. We've been promised it will be open for us tonight, so expect some more pictures soon, and in the meantime, maybe this will tide you over.

Our dishwasher. Note how all the buttons are hidden at the top. Also, the drawers to the left side miss the handle by about half an inch. Whew.

And just for fun, the entire bathtub ensemble together, with a hint of the doorknob. I love that oil-rubbed bronze.
